Please join us on for our next meeting to be held on Sunday 16 February 2025 from 1—2 pm AEST (Qld time) or 3pm AEDT (NSW, Vic time).
When most people think of plants that attract beneficial insects, exotic species such as salvias, marigolds or buddleia often spring to mind. However, did you know that there are many native flowers that are absolute magnets for native bees and other beneficials? My talk will introduce you a range of native plant species suitable for the home garden that I have found to attract the widest range of beneficial insects.
Since emigrating here from the UK in 1989, Peter became fascinated by all aspects of Australian natural history. He is actively involved with several organisations including Native Plants Queensland, of which he is an honorary Life Member, Birds Queensland, Birdlife Australia and the Butterfly and other Invertebrates Club before its recent closure. He is the Coordinator for the Samford Eco-Corridor in Samford parklands, which is a revegetation project that aims to educate the community about the local flora and fauna and ecosystems. He is also a very keen hobbyist wildlife photographer.
Peter will have some bee-attracting native plants for sale. Members interested in buying plants please bring cash (no EFTPOS available).
All are welcome to attend in person at Bulimba Community Centre, 1 Barramul St, Bulimba, Brisbane. Free for members, $5 for non-members. ANBA members can attend by Zoom, a link to join will be sent by email prior to the event.
