Brisbane branch Jan meeting
Native Bee keeping demonstration
Our first meeting for 2025 will be held at member Tony’s backyard at The Gap. Tony has a collection of stingless bee hives of various design, origin and condition. (Read Tony’s Native Bee Journey in the last issue of The Cross-Pollinator, Issue 61, Dec 2024. Page 7).
Tony and Dr Tim Heard will discuss each hive and decide whether to propagate from it and if so which method to use. Attendees will be able to participate in the discussion and observe the resulting technique, be it division, eduction, or brood transfer. We may also extract some honey.
We may be able to Livestream the event, we will keep you posted whether this is going ahead.
The workshop will start at 1pm and finish at 2:30. Refreshments will be served from 230 to 3pm.
Bring protective shoes and clothing, hat, sunscreen, water, your own mug for a hot drink and a folding chair if you like. Feel free to bring snacks to share.
Tony has a honey bee hive in the yard. There should be no interaction with them, however if you are allergic to honey bee stings, please come prepared and bring an EpiPen, and let us know.
This event is free to members, but you need to register to attend. Non-members can register for $40.
Only the first 25 only will be accepted. The address will be sent to the successful registrants a few days prior to the event.
Do not go to our usual meeting venue, the Bulimba Community Centre, no event is taking place there in January. See you back there in February.
