Native bee display and a bee hotel workshop - Port Macquarie

Our first field day for 2025 will be at Mrs York’s Garden Port Macquarie.
The event is to be held on Saturday 15th February and will be a celebration of the 10th year anniversary of the Friends of Mrs York’s Garden
We will have our usual native bee display and a bee hotel workshop from 9am to 2pm.
The Mrs York’s garden was started in 1959 by Amy York and her husband who lived on the corner of Stewart and Grant streets, Port Macquarie.
The headland was covered in weeds, so they set about transforming the area into a beautiful ‘floral reserve’ admired by people from all over Australia and becoming a major tourist attraction for the town.
In late 1970 due to their declining health, the garden came under the care of the local council. However, over time the garden fell into disrepair and remained that way until October 2014, when the Friends of Mrs York’s Garden was formed.
A range of locally occurring plants, representative of a coastal rainforest, have been used to demonstrate how our native plants can create a garden with fruit, flowers and foliage that is beautiful but also attracts and provides habitat for birds, insects and other animals.
It will be a great day in a beautiful setting, so come along and join in the fun.
